What is this trip?
The 5 Day Big Severn Adventure is a self guided River Severn canoe trip for couples and friends who want a proper multi day journey with a clear goal: Pool Quay to Gloucester.
This is the purposeful version of the full navigable River Severn route. Each day has a realistic target, the scenery changes as you move downstream and the trip builds towards a strong finish at Gloucester Docks.
We host your launch, provide the canoe and safety kit, help shape the route plan, GPS track your boat and stay available by phone or WhatsApp while you are on the river.
Why choose the 5 Day Big Severn Adventure?
A clear full-river goal
Pool Quay to Gloucester gives the trip a real sense of purpose. You are not just hiring a canoe for a few days; you are travelling the navigable River Severn in one continuous journey.
Big enough to feel like an achievement
Five days is a committed adventure. You cover steady daily miles, see the river change around you and finish with the satisfaction of having travelled a serious section of Britain’s longest river.
Support without being over-managed
This is still your journey. We give you the plan, kit, tracking and support structure, but you paddle independently and settle into the rhythm of the river as the days unfold.
Camping or B&B options
Some crews camp their way down the river. Others use B&Bs or mix both. The route can be shaped around the kind of overnight stops you want where practical.
The journey: Pool Quay to Gloucester
From Pool Quay onwards, the River Severn settles into a touring character. The water becomes calmer than the upper white water sections and opens into a long, varied canoe journey through Wales, Shropshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire.
Over five days, the river changes around you. Quiet bends and open farmland give way to Shrewsbury, Ironbridge Gorge, Bridgnorth, Bewdley, Worcester, Tewkesbury and finally Gloucester Docks.
The 5 day trip is the focused version. It suits paddlers who like a clear plan, steady progress and the feeling of travelling from one end of the navigable river to the other.
Best for
- Couples and friends who want a proper multi day river journey

Day by day
Day 1: Pool Quay to Shrewsbury area
We meet you at the launch, get you settled with the canoe and kit, then send you downstream with a clear plan for the first day.
The opening stage is about finding your rhythm and settling into the journey as the river carries you towards the Shrewsbury area.
Day 2: Shrewsbury to Ironbridge
Leave Shrewsbury behind and follow the Severn through one of its most recognisable sections.
The day builds towards Ironbridge Gorge, with wooded banks, changing scenery and the famous Iron Bridge marking a real moment in the journey.
Day 3: Ironbridge to Bewdley reach
The river keeps moving through quieter countryside, Bridgnorth and onward towards the Bewdley reach.
This is a steady mileage day, with the sense that the journey is now properly under way and the lower river is beginning to open ahead.
Day 4: Bewdley towards Upton or Tewkesbury
The landscape broadens as you move through Worcestershire, with river towns, open water, rowing clubs, pubs and longer lower-river sections.
Depending on flow, pace and overnight plans, this stage usually carries you towards Upton or the Tewkesbury area.
Day 5: Tewkesbury to Gloucester
The final day is the push to Gloucester and the end of the navigable River Severn journey.
Reaching Gloucester Docks gives the 5 day trip its natural finish: a clear end point after around 125 to 130 miles of river travel.

Questions
5 Day Canoe Trip FAQ
Is the full Pool Quay to Gloucester route realistic in five days?
Yes, for reasonably active paddlers who are happy with steady daily mileage. The 5 day trip is the focused version of the Big Severn Adventure, with clearer daily targets than the 7 day route.
How is the 5 day trip different from the 7 day trip?
The 5 day trip is more purposeful and covers more distance each day. The 7 day trip spreads the same full-river journey over a longer window, with more time for shorter days, town stops and a slower pace.
Can first time multi day paddlers do this?
Many active first time multi day paddlers can manage it with the right attitude and realistic expectations. You need to be happy spending several hours a day on the water and following a clear route plan.
Can we mix camping and B&Bs?
Yes. Some crews camp, some use B&Bs and some mix both. The best plan depends on your pace, the route stages and what accommodation is available along the river.
What happens if river levels change?
River safety comes first. If conditions change, we will talk through the realistic options with you. That may mean adjusting daily targets, changing timings or reshaping the finish plan.
Do you provide transport at the start and finish?
Yes. Transport to the start and from the finish is included as part of the trip logistics.
